A study of 310,000 trauma patients found that African American and Latino patients with health insurance had much higher rate of death than white patients with health insurance.  The death rate disparity was surprisingly slightly less for patients without insurance. The study controlled for severity of the injury.  For more information, see Haider, AH, et al. Energy-efficiency policies in California have led to 1.5 million new jobs over 10 years, and have contributed to the loss of fewer than 25,000 jobs in the same time period.  This finding may bolster support for more environmentally-friendly energy policies in the current economic climate.

Parents unaware of teen substance abuse PDF Print E-mail

Parents consistently underestimate their teenagers' alcohol and drug consumption, according to a study by Laura Beirut of the University of Washington at St Louis.  The younger the teen, the more likely parents do not realize their child is drinking or using drugs.  For more information, see Fisher, S.
